Meet Krista O’Malley—a visionary with an extraordinary passion for business and people, and the creator of My PowerPak
As a creative problem solver, I started thinking about what our group was doing from an experience design perspective about five months into Jenn’s treatment. We were committed to making sure Jenn knew she wasn't on this journey alone; she would have her Pak behind her every step of the way! Although we were scattered around the country, we would fill her world with uplifting, positive vibes and love every week regardless of where we lived. Without a doubt I knew we could make Jenn’s battle at least a little bit better. What I hadn't expected was the strengthening of the bonds between us. The joy and closeness that arose with the shared passion of being part of something more than oneself—of taking part in lifting someone else up—did so much for each of our souls.
However, the importance of coordination and communication are magnified when life events happen. Schedules and appointments are constantly changing, and it's often hard to know what to do, when to do it, who to talk to, and what to say. How can anyone accomplish all of this in real time with so many moving parts? I also wondered why it is that we can ask for things via registries in celebratory situations like weddings and births, but not when life is turned upside down and you need help the most. Or why is it that the very people who are the first to step up for others find it so difficult to ask for help or let others care for them? How can we change the way we think about these situations?
It is clear to me that we are wired to want to help others. As a huge believer in the Platinum rule, I knew it was possible to reduce the friction that so often accompanies a genuine and shared desire to help and to do so meaningfully. And the kicker is that it feels so good, which then fosters a cycle of goodness. How amazing is that! What I learned during this process would not only answer my questions, but would be the catalyst for making My PowerPak a reality in this world. Just as Jenn was the muse for her PowerPak, so would she be for PowerPaks everywhere.
